Sleek Michelle Obama celebrates black girls

There are few women better suited as inspiring role models for girls, especially black girls, than America’s first black first lady, so Michelle Obama was the star at the annual Black Girls Rock! event in New Jersey this weekend.

And, as fashion types noted, she looked especially head-turning while doing so, in a sleek new hair style and a white form-fitting corset dress by Zac Posen.

“Hot damn!” marveled Elle magazine.

The nearly four-hour awards event, which honors trailblazing women of color, was taped and will air April 5, on BET.

Black Girls Rock! is aimed at inspiring young black girls with positive images and figures.

Among the stars honored were Jada Pinkett Smith, singer Erykah Badu, actress Cicely Tyson, and Selma director Ava DuVernay, as well as educators and humanitarian leaders.

But Obama was the big star. She got the loudest ovation as she came on stage and declared “Black girls rock!” according to the Associated Press.

Her appearance fit in with her “Let Girls Learn” campaign to promote better education opportunities for girls at home and around the world. She just returned from an Asia trip where girls’ education was the main theme.
