Empire is expanding.
Oscar winner Marisa Tomei is the latest star to join the hit Fox drama, which became a cultural sensation in its first season.
Empire‘s writers acknowledged her arrival Thursday with a friendly tweet: “Welcome to #Empire, @marisatomei!” The network confirmed the casting.
Alicia Keys, Chris Rock and Lenny Kravitz also have signed on to appear in Season 2 of Empire, which follows Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), his ex-wife, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), and their family music business. The second season starts Sept. 23 (9 p.m. ET/PT).
Tomei will play Mimi Whiteman, “a demanding venture capitalist who becomes involved in Lyon family drama this season.” She is described as a “Forbes list billionairess, lover of hip-hop music, social trends, high-end fashion and beautiful women.”
