Joey Cook says she had no idea her fellow American Idol contestant Quentin Alexander was going to say what he said Wednesday.
“That came out of nowhere,” says the 24-year-old singer, referring to Alexander’s comments to Ryan Seacrest after he finished singing Lenny Kravitz’s Are You Gonna Go My Way?
When Seacrest asked Alexander what he was thinking, the scowling singer looked over at the two remaining singers — Cook and Rayvon Owen — who hadn’t yet learned their fate and said, “This sucks. You got two of the best vocalists sitting over there — my best friend is sitting over there. This whole thing is wack.”
Meanwhile, Cook, the best friend to whom Alexander was referring, was attempting to send him mental messages.
“I was telepathically trying to tell him everything would be OK,” she says. “‘Everything will be fine, Quentin.'”
